B.Sc. Nursing

“Nursing” is directly meant of caring. It is considered to be one of the noblest professions in the service industry. Nursing is one of the most sought careers by the women in India but suitable for both for male & female. Nursing is very challenging, hardworking, popular, respectful and merciful occupation. Nursing is the right career option for those candidates who have the zeal and interest to serve the mankind. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or B.Sc. Nursing is a 4 year professional course. In India the course is registered under and is controlled by Indian Nursing Council. The basic qualification required to apply for the course is plus two in science stream.


The main objective of this course is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services. The graduates should be patient oriented and caring professional with excellent patience and remarkable organizing skills as a Nurse. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor, and manager in a clinical/public health setting. The purpose of this course is to prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice.


The profession is ever demanding and there is a vast opening for the Nursing Graduate worldwide. Nurses do not remain unemployed. They easily get jobs in private and government run hospitals, nursing homes, orphanages, old age homes, industries, sanatoriums and the armed forces. They can also seek employment in the Indian Red Cross Society, Indian Nursing Council, State Nursing Councils and various other nursing institutions. Nurses can also take up administrative and teaching positions in medical colleges and nursing schools. B.Sc. nursing is a great career option for future higher study in nursing like M.Sc (N) , M.Phil or Ph.D. They have Tremendous job prospects with lucrative salary and opportunities to go abroad like USA, Canada, Singapore, UK, Gulf Countries where Indian nurses are more demanding.

Admission Criteria for B.Sc. Nursing

  • Candidates belonging to all categories for admission to the B.Sc., Degree course in Nursing (Basic) should have passed the qualifying examinations (Academic Stream) after period of 12 years of study with the following subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
  • Every candidate before admission to the course shall submit to the Principal of the institution a certificate of medical fitness from an authorized medical officer that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the academic course.
  • The maximum age for admission shall be 35 years.
  • Admission of students shall be once in a year.
  • The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on or before 31 December of the year of admission.
  • The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of: Higher Secondary school certificate Examination (12 years course),
    Senior School certificate Examination (10+2), pre-degree Examination (10+2)
    An equivalent with 12 years schooling from a recognized board or university with science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) with minimum 50 % aggregate marks and English as a subject.
